New Bloat Study

Subject: Bloat Study findings

Permission to cross post from LetsDiscussJudging
NEW Purdue Bloat Study

Recent studies are shedding more light on gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV), otherwise known as bloat. GDV
is the second leading cause of death in large-breed (50 – 99 pounds) and giant-breed (100 pounds and over) dogs.
Approximately one in four large-breed dogs and one in five giant-breed dogs may develop GDV during their lifetime,
with some breeds at even higher lifetime risk. GDV strikes… Continue

How Long is too long?

I have been watching this for too long..

No one believed me in 2005...no one believed me in 2006 here we are in 2008

I watched helplessly as Diamond Lied.

I have press reports.

No problems with our foods they say..

They also say to me just last week...we had no problems with "Our Foods"

Liars.

I took all the kittens off nutro and put them on royal canin baby chow. Within 10 days the kitten's hematocrit doubled. A month later now, she's a healthy, chubby little kitten. I don't know if it was the food or not but I wouldn't chance it again. I'll never use Nutro again - for my dogs or cats.

I have been doing animal rescue for years. I've used Nutro for the past 4 years without a problem. I now have a little kitten who has a 'mystery' illness that is costing a bundle and she may die. She is about 10 weeks old. I've had her for 3 weeks and while in my care she started to decline about 10 days ago. She has a hematocrit of 14% and obvious hienz body anemia. This is suggestive of ingestion of onions or onion powder or detergent. I know she hasn't gotten anything like that from me. The only other possibility is her food. The vet suggests a blood transfusion now.

I have stopped feeding her nutro as of today. I have 3 other foster kittens with her that have been fed the same. They have cronic diarreha but not the other symptoms that this sick little one has.

Have you heard of anything like that in the blogs or emails? I haven't seen much about cat illnesses in the nutro blogs.

Thanks for any info.

Take a look..

Dry Large Breed Is on there..looks like the comments from Austrailia could be true. They shipped out toxic food everywhere.

I am researching more about this..

I completely agree this is bogus BS I was working for Nutro during the menu foods recall and was instructed to say the foods that were recalled were part of a VOLUNTARY recall and NO CONTAMINATION has been found. I called Nutro a few months ago with concerns on my own cats and they said they'd send me what was needed to send a sample for testing and my vet bills/records so they could determine if they were responsible. I have recieved NOTHING from them. But its not like if their food was actually contaminated they'd admit it. I was reading a story on purina killing some bichons (apparently from Ch lines and show dogs) well the owner paid for necropsies and the vet determined on one that it was caused by aflotoxin in the food leading to liver failiure or something like that. But the ppl reading the autopsy report at the company found it was pnemonia that killed the dog, thus they're not responsible for it all. Yeah thats really ethical. It angers me so much that we should even have to DEAL with this. Anymore we can't even trust OUR own food to be safe though I have seen countless salmonella and e colli contaminations in numerous foods in the last year or more and it's rediculous. WHat do you have to do to eat safe? Grow all your own meat and veggies/fruit?? Seems like it.
I agree with everything your saying too Paul. It's big business anymore, a good solid reputable company of what 50/55 years gets bought out by big business and thier product goes to crap.
I was trying to find a list of all of Menus foods they distribute and can only find the "recalled" items, they don't want you to know everything they make so you can stay away from it.
Just maddening!!!

Safe? I want to know how the foods got out onto the market if the tests are so Good..This does not make any sense. Even Nutro which has very detailed tests and feeding trials missed it and shipped product all over the world. One detail you might have missed on the toxicity reports is that Large breed Adult Dry was reported to have toxins/Poisions in it.
No one but me noticed thatthgey were never recalled, There were also samples that were poision...So someone gives you a poision sample and you need to prove you bought something.? I don't get it.

First of all this is all a bogus claim reducing technique if you ask me. They are trying to make it difficult so more people will not make a claim.

I have some very Important questions that are quite disturbing if you line them all up.
First of all is everyone aware of the 2006 Poisioning by Diamond Pet Foods it was in OCT to December and was settled for 3.1 million Dollars in March..in fact the deadline for your claim is over.. it passed and the details were quite hidden and you had to prove your animal was sick from there food...at the same time tests were coming up with Melamine according to articles from "Peta" So while this was happening I have a press release from Diamond to Pet Food Express Stores stating That all of there foods were Safe!

Hi Paul,
Thank you so much for your decication to this heartfealt cause, so nice in knowing that someone really does care. I've heard so much about you from Anicka, she is also dead serious about this issue as we all really are in a sense. I lost my beloved cat Snuggles (who is shown here) to what I now believe could have been his food, he was 16 years old and apparantly in good health, he got ill gradually all the normal kidney diease symptoms, he had been on Hills Presctiption Diet, the K/D formula, about mid 2006 he would get sick and then come around by himself, but then the end of October he had his worse symtoms and just went down from there, I was told he had an shortage of Potassium and they prescribed something that really only made him worse, I didnt want my beloved FIRST pet to suffer so I had a desicion to make. To make a long story short, I thought he had just gotten ill due to age, now I've been told that by Anicka that his food was to blame. Unforturnatly I can't be 100% sure, but all signs do point to that.
So I too join you in this fight, sorry this "comment" went on a bit too long, but I wanted you to know my story as well. I met Anicka through a memorial site I had put up for Snuggs, she's been my savior really, although her and I have never actually met, I feel that we have since her and I have been through a lot in the last few years, she has been a great friend for almost two years now, (Snuggles has been gone about that long...and I still miss him terribly, so much so to never get another cat anytime soon out of fear of losing another one....sounds a bit confusing, sorry), I took it very hard and it would kill me if I have to go through it all over again.
Okay, I've gone on again, sorry (again, ;-)), just wanted to REALLY thank you for adding me on as well.
Thank you Paul keep up the great work!
Samantha (or "Sam" as my friends call me).
